Yevsey Tseytlin
Yevsey Tseytlin, author, critic, and scholar of literature, was born in Siberia in 1948. He earned his PhD at Moscow State Pedagogical University in 1978, after which he taught Russian literature and cultural studies at the graduate level and published multiple works. Tseytlin is a member of both the Russian and the Lithuanian Unions of Writers, and is also a member of the International Pen Club (“Writers in Exile”). He is the author of some two dozen books. In the early 1990s, Tseytlin underwent teshuvah (became a returnee to traditional Judaism). He emigrated from Russia to Vilnius, Lithuania, where he organized and edited an almanac entitled The Jewish Museum, published by the Jewish State Museum of Lithuania. Tseytlin has lived in the United States since 1996, editing the Chicago monthly Shalom, which presents and explains various aspects of Judaism, Jewish history, philosophy, and culture. His book Long Conversations in Anticipation of a Joyful Death was first published in 1996 by the Jewish State Museum of Lithuania and saw several editions in Russian, along with translations into Lithuanian, German, Ukrainian, Spanish, and English.
